The Kingfisher Theater accepts submissions of one-act and full-length plays, translations, and adaptations for readings, development, and/or full production.

Original plays should fit in with our motto “classic plays in new ways” by drawing inspiration from the themes, styles, characters, or plots of drama and literature in the public domain, but in such a way as to be relevant to contemporary American life.

If not a wholly original piece, adaptations and translations should also be of works in the public domain.

Please do not send us the first draft of a play.

To have your play considered, submit the following as a single .pdf document to submissions@thekingfishertheater.org:

  • A cover letter that introduces yourself and provides your contact information
  • A creative résumé
  • A development or production history of this play, if applicable
  • A ½ page description of the play.  This does not have to be a summary.
  • A list of characters.
  • A ten-page sequential sample of dialogue that highlights the best aspects of the play. (We will let you know if we wish to read the entire play.)

If we are interested in your play, you can expect to receive a response within 6 -12 months.

Please title your document using lastnamefirstnameplaytitlesubmission
